it’s so weird because taylor is literally THE biggest artist in the world right now, but, in many ways, speak now feels like something that just ours (pun intended) since it doesn’t really have any extremely popular singles like wanegbt or sio and I can guarantee that many casual fans have never listened to it but the tv is obviously going to do well and speak now will become one of the well known albums and idk how I feel about this

*taps mic* is this thing on???

my first ever taylor theory, brought to you by your resident publishing pros @bluecosmics and I.

the theory? Taylor will be releasing a memoir/book (probably titled Dear Reader) on July 9th, 2023.

    so, let’s start with this:

    image

books with well known authors are typically embargoed until it’s ready to be announced, usually in a pretty theatrical/public way, depending on the author. so it’s not unusual that books of this nature aren’t given authors/titles, HOWEVER, they do provide that information to booksellers (bc, as @bluecosmics said, publishers can’t just be like “we can’t tell you anything about this book but it’s really good trust us lol”).

typically, books publish on Tuesdays. July 9th is NOT a Tuesday. that’s very atypical and would only be done under very special circumstances.

now let’s take a look at Taylor’s speak now announcement:

    image

first, the callback to dear reader. now dear reader as a song title always felt a little odd to me. that’s typically a phrase reserved for authors/books. like wouldn’t it make more sense for it to be dear “listener” (even though that doesn’t sound as good) so the callback feels HUGE to me.

second, the July 9th tongue in cheek reference. we know this is a inside joke between the fans, but ALSO… could it be pointing towards the LITERAL PUB DATE???? we know she loves to put clues in plain sight.

third, COMPLETELY SELF WRITTEN. double meaning!!!! an “unfiltered diaristic confession” about “growing up, flailing, flying and crashing… and living to speak about it”. if that’s not just a Taylor worded definition of a memoir, I don’t know what is.

SO TAKE THIS ALL WITH A GRAIN OF SALT but I’ve never been more convinced of a theory in my entire life. thank you and goodnight.

When I write a song its usually just me trying to get past something and understand something Im going through by writing about it, and that was definitely the case when I wrote the next song Im going to play. On this tour weve had this really wonderful tradition thats kind of come about where, and it started with you, you guys were like saying to me online I really want you to play older songs that you dont play very often and so I was like Okay! and so this tradition kind of came about and Im really glad you told me to do that because its really fun, its super fun going back through songs I havent played in forever.
